623 - E block - due Thursday 14.05.01

finish "623 - FST - Chapter 5.4/5.5 - MORE PRACTICE" ws
 the first problem is:

1. sin θ = -1/2
-the sine ratio is negative in quadrants 3 and 4.
-look at the 30-60-90 triangle - the 1/2 side is opposite 30 degrees, so the reference angle is 30 degrees.
-a reference angle of 30 degrees in quad 3 (30 past 180) is 210 degrees and in quad 4 (30 back from 360) is 330 degrees
- radians... denominators are 6
7π/6 and 11π/6

611 - D block - due Friday 14.05.02

finish geo chpt 4.3 #3 - 9

612 - A block - due Thursday 14.05.01

no homework (assuming you finished the 10.2 ws)

in class we use sine, cosine and tangent ratios to find sides of triangles.

SOH - CAH - TOA

we also used sine, cosine and tangent ratios to find angle measures by using the "inverse" sine, cosine and tangent functions (by pressing the "2nd" button on the calc)

10.1 / 10.2 quiz friday - finding sides and angles using the trig ratios

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

Thursday, April 17, 2014

612 - A block - due Monday 14.04.28

1. nothing.

2. class average on the chpt 11 big quiz was a 64/70 which is a 91.4% (which is slightly absurd, but like i said... it was the easiest big quiz of the year). those of you that did poorly... you struggled for two reasons for the most part. 1. you didn't know the formulas. 2. you either didn't know the special right triangles, and/or assumed things were special right triangles that weren't.

grades are up on engrade.

NOTES (Jules - this is for you):

Area of Equilateral Triangle = (s^2)/4 x sqrt 3 (look in the book)

Area of Regular Polygon (any, including triangle) = (1/2)ap

a = apothem (segment that goes from the center of the polygon to the midpoint of a side - perpendicular bisector)
p = perimeter

r = radius (segment that goes from the center of the polygon to a vertex angle of the polygon - bisects the angle)

KNOW YOUR 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles!!
