CHAPTER 10 BIG QUIZ TUESDAY!!

NO CALC

- GSTK sheet - be able to fill it out

- finding exact values (using GSTK)
     ex: sin 120 - ref < (distance from x-axis) is 60.
120 is in quad 2 where y (and sin) is positive.
         sin of 60 is rt 3 / 2 (positive)

- finding angles (using exact values)
      ex. tan X = -1
          ref angle is 45 degrees
tan is negative in quadrants 2 and 4
          ref angle of 45 in quadrant 2 = 135
          ref angle of 45 in quadrant 4 = 315

- graph - be able to graph both sine and cosine (just as it is on the sheet)

CALC

- SOH - CAH - TOA - use to find sides and angles in right triangles
if you are looking for an angle - use inverse

- laws of sines and cosines - use to find angles and sides in not right triangles
if you are looking for an angle - use inverse  (last step)
use law of cosines when you have SSS or SAS.

- pythag identity
  (cos X)^2 + (sin X)^2 = 1 - know how to use it

Monday, November 4, 2013

623 - E block - due Tuesday 13.11.05

finish 10.4 / 10.5 ws - "The Unit Circle - AGAIN" (#1 is sin 90)

reference angle: distance from 0, 180 or 360 (the x-axis).  if the reference angle is the same, then the value will also be the same, but the sign (+/-) can change. think about what is positive in which quadrants. use the GSTK sheet!

if the angle is 0, 90, 180, 270 or 360 you do not need a reference angle - just state the value of x (cos) or y (sin) or y/x (tan).  you should always get 0, +/-1, or UD*
